Manga Art Exchange (MAX) is this site that opened in late December 2001 as a go-between for artists to draw each others' characters. As a charter member of MAX, here's a display of what I've given and gotten out of it. Rounds run every half month, and sign up is open to anyone. Visit their site for details. March 2003 B Outgoing To: Robin Goodfellow (Xlade) The Art of Insanity Katerina from System Katerina's a mysterious character, even "she can't make up her mind what she is", and there aren't many pictures of her either. There was just a profile drawing, here's what I think she'd look like face on. Much of System's a mystery too, but the art and the descriptions suggest some sort of future setting, so I supplied that. Materials: Pencil (6B) Incoming From: Farah Farah's Kingdom of Arts Stupid Melon from Stupid Melon Dumb Egg. Orange Theme! "A Melon in an Orange World" March 2003 A Outgoing To: Topaz Meripoble Various Minor Characters from Femme Fatale, a sci-fi/comedy/drama. Page 1 Page 2 A sequel to a comic done in March 2002. See the Spring 2002 section for it. Materials: Technical Pen and Marker. Incoming From: Jenny Hickman (Ichogo) CaffienOliscious Stupid Melon and Dumb Egg from Stupid Melon Dumb Egg. The setting in the picture is the artist's studio, as is, as of March 2003. Cleaner than mine... February 2003 B Outgoing To: Uncreativity Uncreative Productions Various Minor Characters from Donut Girls, a parody on common anime themes. This picture contains four minor characters from Donut Girls. Yes, there are four, count 'em- the Squirrel, Keychain Kamisama (the deus ex keychain), and not one but two Fride Magnet Shinigamichans. Squirrels are evil, at least I think they are. Materials: Colored Pencil and only colored pencil. I got this new bocks of them and they got this new art supply smell. Mmmm! Incoming From: Sabrina Little Mistakes Li Hsiao Lin and Ming Ming from Tomorrow's Tales. I asked for something with cheese in it, and although the cheese only plays a supporting role, it's there! February 2003 A Outgoing To: Xalan Sourkrat Just a Little Bit Dangerous Basil from Metropolis Fan Fiction, fan fiction based on anime film "Metropolis". Well, it seems like that among the characters of the 20-odd regular participants of Manga Art Exchange, we have another blue-haired robot! Granted, Basil may not have the high profile of that other blue haired machine, but she's definitely a more agreeable person. Speaking of blue hair, though, going through the Manga Art Exchange galleries, it's just as common if not more so than colors such as black or blond. There are also a few instances of blue skin, but that's a whole 'nother thing. I bet it's only a matter of time that blue hair becomes big in real life, and hair dyeing solutions like these become commonplace. Materials: Marker. I just got these three nice blue markers to replace the almost completely drained blue markers from my old marker set, and I had to try 'em out. The labels say they're non-toxic, but from the way they stink up the room I gotta think otherwise. Incoming From: Andrew Ocean's End Dumb Egg from Stupid Melon Dumb Egg. Notice position of telephone reciever. Boy is she out of it! January 2003 B Outgoing To: K. Mai Meripoble Part 11 (pgs 29-33) of "The Secret Files of M.A.X.", an improvisational comic that stars participating artists' characters from other comics. Page 29 Page 30 Page 31 Page 32 Page 33 Refer to the TSFM site for other pages. Materials: Ink and Pen Incoming From: Crystal Drawing Log Gallery Li Chou from May We Live in Interesting Times. A nice picture showing both an older and younger version of the same character. January 2003 A Outgoing To: Sabrina Zirakzadeh Little Mistakes Jade, Amber, Faith, and Dia from Little Mistakes, a comic about four girls and their band Little Mistakes. Clockwise from top right: Jade, Amber, Faith, and Dia on bass, guitar & vocals, piano, and drums. These four characters are interesting, read the comic to know more, and I've never seen a band with such a combination, as you'd think there musical taste would be too different for one band to handle. Having had no experience with the guitar, I got the feeling that something ain't drawn correctly but I'm not quite sure what it is. Materials: Pen, Colored Pencil, and Black Marker. Incoming From: Bunny H One Hour Axis Part 10 (pgs 26-28) of "The Secret Files of M.A.X.", an improvisational comic that stars participating artists' characters from other comics.
