Autumn 2002 Manga Art Exchange (MAX) is this site that opened in late December 2001 as a go-between for artists to draw each others' characters. As a charter member of MAX, here's a display of what I've given and gotten out of it. Rounds run every half month, and sign up is open to anyone. Visit their site for details. September 2002 B Outgoing To: Hinode In Due Time The Computer from In Due Time, an epic science fiction comic strip. The Computer is described as a first-of-its-kind, experimental sentient computer with suicidal tendencies. Wouldn't you want one of these in your study? Incoming From: Uncreativity Uncreativity Melon from Stupid Melon Dumb Egg "Today is a good day for science." Of course, every day is. September 2002 A Outgoing To: Endjoi Wasteland Angel Todd, Kara, Turk, Aya, and Naoassassin (L to R, horizontal rows) from Inquisitor 2000, a comic strip currently under construction. Only the picture for whom I presume was Todd was available, so from the very rudimentary character descriptions (go to the comic page) which were more story than description based, I drew in the characters using a bit of the style the one picture was done in, as well as a lot of my own imagination. Wonder how accurate I was. Incoming From: Dark Artist Red Lexi The Goliath SUV from Goliath The evil rampaging SUV from "Goliath". Dark Artist has added some very appropriate "modifications" to this infamous vehicle. August 2002 B Outgoing To: Dark Artist Red Lexi Lexi from Red Lexi, a fantasy comic about a teenage boy with flaming red hair coming of age. Reading the character descriptions and looking over the pictures, two things instantly stood out- the red hair, and the green eyes. This inspired me to do this rainbow coloring style starting from the red hair, working down to green on Lexi's body, and then from green to purple and back to red in the background. Incoming From: Capsule Girl Capsule Girl's Space Dimension Stupid Melon and Dumb Egg from Stupid Melon Dumb Egg For the second time, Stupid Melon and Dumb Egg of Stupid Melon Dumb Egg are drawn together, and once again, it's both incredibly cute and cheerful. July 2002 B Outgoing To: Reed Hawker (Hawk) Alternate Dimension H. C. Spazzmodius from Alt-Ctrl-Dimension, a comic about alternate dimensions accessed through mysterious keyboards. This guy's claim to fame is that he was the sole survivor of a nuclear war on his planet, which gained him both a mania for and immunity to explosives. With July Fourth fireworks and all, this seems so fitting... H.C. Spazzmodius having a good time "the only way he knows how." Incoming From: Endjoi Wasteland Angel Mei Jing from May We Live in Interesting Times Endjoi wasn't quite sure of her age, which is OK, as a person's age changes over time! Here's a less commonly seen, younger, Mei Jing. July 2002 A Outgoing To: Heather Uncreativity Productions Arianna Sherwin, Kay Toyatomi, Storme Caldor, and Dagar Caldor from Chimamire no Michi no MESSIAH0. I'm not sure what the Japanese romanization means. The comic is a parody of magica/mystical stories. Four people who transform into MESSIAH. Their elements are Wind, Fire, Water, and Earth. Air, Fire, Water, and Earth were thought to be the four "elements" beginning in Ancient Greece, a practice continuing until the development of modern chemistry. They were distinguished by the four characteristics of warm, cold, dry, and moist. Air was warm/moist, fire warm/dry, water cold/moist, earth cold/dry. In this picture, Wind, Water, and Earth are obvious, Fire is the sun, which, well, is a big ball of fire. The arrangement of the elements has been altered for the sake of making the picture look better. Each character is drawn over his/her corresponding element. Incidentally, in the Ancient Orient, there were five elements. fire, water, and earth are also included, air is not, instead there is wood and metal. Incoming From: Eric Cortes Linear GT Studios Dumb Egg from Stupid Melon Dumb Egg Although simple, Eric's picture is quite accurate, and his inking style and black-and-white-ness has a lot of the SMDE flavor.
